9th grade - Now

Esports 🎮

Esports has been a major portion of my current high school career: stretching from 8th grade to 12th grade. I played Rocket League for Van Buren in 9th Grade and we reached Top 8. I moved to Southside to play for their team all the way through senior year.

Some of the major events involving me and reaching heights in esports was Rewired Festival. Rewired Festival 2022-2023 was a great experience to learn more about playing at a LAN experience and meeting new Rocket League players around the state. I met multiple professional Rocket League players and my team placed 5th.

I will play esports at the collegiate level as it has always been a passion for me.

Python + HTML

In 9th grade, I created a pet adoption website that was coded in Python and HTML. This was a project through my Programming Year 1 class, as I had to set up a database for the pet names, create a website front with HTML, and use Django with Python. I enjoyed coding and started to phase into game development.

10th Grade

GameSalad + AP CS Principles

During 10th grade, I became more involved with computer science through game development. I did AP Computer Science Principles and received a 3 on the test. My create task was Crash Derby which involved coding cars to crash (like a derby) to receive a score. My next big endeavor was Five Nights at Thien’s. FNAT was a project done through Mobile App Development, which involved one of my great friends as the mascot. I learned valuable information about how to create game design.

During 10th grade year, I was on the National Honor Society as an inductee and I saw my first instances of me being involved with my community through  numerous clubs like Asian Culture Club, Robotics, and Band.

FBLA + AP Classes

11th grade: Java and AP classes

During the 11th grade year, I became more involved in computer science and harder classes. I created an FBLA computer simulation that went to a state competition. This game was Smores’ Hangman. It involved collaborating with multiple of my peers to design a functioning game with another fellow student’s art. We ended up scoring highly at the state level among multiple different contestants.

Next, I took AP Computer Science A and received a 3. I learned about Java programming and sparked my interest in programming text-based code. By learning Java, an intermediate-level language, I formed great habits under my teacher, Gina Lewis. I created multiple projects and assignments that helped me learn. Some of these projects and competitions I did was the All-Region coding competition, which allowed me to code under pressure and collaborate among multiple different people.  I used my interest in Java into C++ the following year.


Finally, I did my final year of Band, starting from 6th grade. I played the Alto Saxophone and qualified for All-State competition. On top of this, I was doing 5 AP classes, which included:

Junior year helped me form my transcript for the following years through persevering a harsh workload through AP Classes and side-projects.

11th Grade

Independent Study + PEAK

UAFS WATC/PEAK Program + iCAN

My final year of high school currently has been the most exciting for Computer Science and Information Technology. First, I started doing the Networking Engineering Technology PEAK/WATC UAFS Concurrent class which has taught me valuable knowledge about the Information Technology side, as we’ve built servers, RJ-45 wires, and even hosted the iCAN Career Expo.

During the iCAN Career Expo, we spent 8 hours teaching 8th graders from local areas about information technology. This was a great way to get involved within my community and teach others about my passion.

Independent Study + PEAK

Gina Lewis Room Cabling + C++

Next, I used my knowledge of how to create RJ-45 cables to wire Gina Lewis’ room that was a total of 8 hours worth of volunteer work. This was a great way to apply and make an impact from hands-on learning that I learned from PEAK.

 

Finally, I started my studying of C++ through Independent Study and I am hoping to use this knowledge to build my portfolio for my career. These experiences through PEAK, Independent Study, and volunteering has helped shape my senior year (1st semester currently) into a great year for computer science.

 

Some of the volunteering I did was for the UAFS AAPI festival(s) and they were a really great way to be included in my community.

Personal CS Projects

FBLA + Personal Projects

Under FBLA, I helped co-create another computer simulation with my friends Marceline and Devin. This computer simulation has once again been a great experience, as game development is a great passion of mine. We created a rogue-like type game, where you progress through multiple different levels, and gaining experience for new abilities. Most of the art was created by Marceline, alongside the coding by me and Devin.
