Before High School

4th - 8th grade

Before High School

Elementary

Starting in 4th to 5th grade, I started my computer science interests in Robotics and Code.org. At Van Buren Schools, there was a partnership with VeX robotics. We did numerous VeX IQ competitions within the district and it lead to my progress in Computer Science.

6th Grade

  • ◉   Started up the Robotics Club
  • ◉   Joined Middle School Band
  • ◉   Went to several band camps
  • ◉   Joined Quiz Bowl
  • ◉   Won Quiz Bowl Regional Competition

7th Grade

In 7th grade, I took classes that were STEM focused such as base-level engineering, coding classes, and robotics. The engineering class taught me how to design a shoe for people with Parkinson’s Disease. There were coding classes that taught me how to code images through simple HTML/CSS.  Finally, robotics was still a very fun past-time within summer camps and classes.

8th Grade

8th grade was an important year for my influence on STEM as I went to do harder coding classes that were through code.org and simple python coding. I knew that computer science (STEM) was a field I wanted to pursue so I accelerated in harder math classes. I took the Duke TiP, an ACT test for 7th graders, and got a 17. Finally, I got into the 8th grade Honor Society, showing I can excel with a high GPA and be involved within my community.
